My hand written notes |
• 1986-Editorial Board of DC Comics became dated after half a century work of comics
• Revamping was needed and DC were looking at there top three characters in Superman, Wonder Woman and Batman, to be the ones to start revamping
• Ideas were coming up for the revamping of Wonder Woman and Superman but DC Comics were realising that Batman wasn't really in the need of revamping
• DC still beleived that Bob Kane and Bill Finger-1939 was still perfect and didn't really need the revamping as it was seen as a perfect comic and mirrored readership, cand coping with aredities of 20th Century urban life.
• DC then finally had come up with the idea that Batman's origins didn't need changing but rather improved to tell the story in a unique style
• To which Frank Miller had volunteered and with the work he had produced he was acknowledged as the best writer-artist
Danny O'Neil March 1988 A Shadow Fell Across Me...
• Danny writes that if readers have an idea of Batman being of the Adam West and Burt Ward tv series of Batman, where they exchanged camped out-quips and had a sense of humour about it...
• But in Danny's mind Batman was never a funny or happy type of character anf this was after he had bought his first issue of Batman and saw how "the artwork on one story looked good and scary" (8 years old) and that because it was a little dark of comic book through its artwork and thats what Batman encompasses as he is a dark and straight forward guy who is always serious
I was able to scan in some notes from the Batman Year One Notes and found these at the back, which give opinions on if these superheroes weren't as they seemed and giving a different view on things:
