Choosing to go with the castle idea and wanting to do three floors, dungeon, courtyard, tower to get a concept art skill set improvement i wanted to get that across through the quality of the game environment. Looking at the many designs that have been graced by the ideas of a castle and as you can see castles are mostly built as a square, block based design but have also varied into the designs of a tall, cylindrical tower.
When it comes to my variation of the castle i will focus on a 12th Century medieval building, using the square, blocked design to seem much more of a castle built within the 12th century rather than a cylindrical design. The textures that are seen from these images are various stone based textures which allows me to use multiple textures on the areas of my castle model. The castles in the images show that throughout the designs of castles they always consist of large, tall towers as their corner points and a joint wall based building as their first line of defense to which their next center focus point of the castle is behind.
I will have a similar approach in terms of the towers ass the corner points but not use that as the whole of the corner and use much more of the joint wall based approach but with the main center point of the castle i will have an open area being able to look down into the castle rather than a center building.
