Negotiated Study Week2:Castle Door and Stairways Research

I also researched into the stairs and doors of various medieval buildings, finding that the stairs shown in these images are wide spread and separated stairways give a larger scale of the room that they are connected to. As well as looking at the stairs for the main rooms i also looked at stairs for the tower and how the stairs would vary from being in a circular or boxed tower.

After looking at what types of stairs i could have and how th epositioning would work in the castle plan i have, i began to look at the medieval doors that would work for my castle. As you can see from the images i looked at mainly wooden doors which use iron for the hinges, bolts, handles and so on this was because of the time period wooden doors were used much more than an iron based door a the material for wood was much cheaper and easier to manufacture.

For my game environment i see myself using a much similar approach to modelling the stairs in terms of a main stairway which will break apart into two separate directions. The door modelling will differ as i see not much of a use of modelling a door as rather using bump mapping and texturing to show a representation of a door rather than adding more faces.
